I get asked this a lot, so here goes.
When I was in High School a girl friend decided I looked and acted, and moved (and maybe even sounded like) Kermit The Frog. I was a big fan of The Muppet Show, so I didn’t mind. The name stuck, so I was Kerm to all my friends. People started giving me ceramic and other fake frogs, and I started collecting them. There are many in my pad…
As time went on I started writing more and more, and I knew I wanted to be a writer more than an Engineer, as I was always writing poems and lyrics on the sides of my notebooks and, eventually, on computers.
I was daydreaming at work one day, and I arrived at the conclusion that I would have a writing company someday, and I would call it Frog’s Pad. It would have a frog themed logo, a lily pad turned into a writing pad.
As my lovely and intelligent wife always says, “Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.” She ended up getting such a great job down east that I was able to quit engineering and start from scratch as a writer.
Frog’s Pad has three meanings.
1. Literally the Frog’s Pad in my logo, as I am a frog fan and collector,
2. The pad, the place, where I work. Since I am Kerm the frog, it is Frog’s Pad.
3. Frog’s Pad, the writing pad that I do my work on.
Hence the logo on my home page and business cards.
